Many people have differing opinions on which season is the best. And while all opinions are valid, the truth is that only one provides the ideal for vacationing and easy living: summertime! If you struggle to enjoy the heat, here are a few suggestions to help you see the light.
Wear Comfortable Clothes
The number-one complaint about summer is that it can be hot and uncomfortable. To be fair, that is a fair complaint to have – especially if you live in a humid climate where the air can feel thick and oppressive. The key is to wear light, breathable, and durable clothes. You may find that even short-sleeved shirts and shorts can be uncomfortable if not made from the right material. Go to your local retail stores and thrift shops to find summer deals and sales. You might just be shocked at how different the nicer clothes can feel! Don’t forget to search for a matching hat and pair of comfortable summer shoes (like sandals) that can make all the difference.
Don’t Forget Sunscreen
Sunscreen is important for everyone – no matter how often you’re outside, no matter the skin tone. Why? Sunscreen plays an important role in protecting your skin from damaging UV rays. Studies have clearly demonstrated that prolonged exposure to the sun (especially without sunscreen) can lead to the development of skin cancer. And even if that’s not the case – you can still suffer from sunburns that can even reach the third degree of severity! If you don’t want to be unable to put on a shirt due to the pain of your sunburn, you’re going to want to plan ahead. Kids should wear sunscreen in the pool if the sun is up. Remember: Aloe vera gel is your other best friend.
Stay Well-Hydrated
Hydration works wonders. It keeps athletes going strong, it flushes your body of toxins, and it can help keep you cool and happy in the heat. Without being properly hydrated, you become more susceptible to heat stroke and sunburn. A truly hot day and a lack of water in your body can even result in a life-threatening situation if you’re of delicate health. In short – always carry plenty of water with you. Have a high-quality, personal water bottle, and use it liberally. Look for refill stations on beach boardwalks.
Everyone likes to do different summer activities. Sometimes, you might just want to stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning – and there’s nothing wrong with that! But make sure that when you step outside, you are properly prepared to enjoy the summer of your life.
